  1. Wesley Hill - When Christians Disagree

Lecture Description: Throughout the history of the church, Christians have often wrangled over various doctrines and theological positions. Today, however, it seems more common for Christians to disagree about behavioral matters. The existence of moral disagreement among Christians is an invitation for all of us to think carefully about Christian truth, unity, charity, and judgment. Wesley Hill will discuss several New Testament passages that can help us find a way forward.

Wesley Hill is Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. He is the author of Washed and Waiting: Reflections on Christian Faithfulness and Homosexuality (Zondervan, 2016), Paul and the Trinity (Eerdmans, 2015), and Spiritual Friendship: Finding Love in the Church as a Celibate Gay Christian (Brazos, 2015).

  2. The Gospels: A New Translation - A Conversation with Sarah Ruden

Please join the Regent College Bookstore for a conversation with classical philologist Dr. Sarah Ruden about her recent publication The Gospels: A New Translation.

In this remarkable new translation of the Gospels, Dr. Sarah Ruden treats the books of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John with unprecedented precision, uniquely concentrating on the original words and sensitively reflecting on their historical and literary context. This masterful translation presents each Gospel as a narrative that can be read clear through and understood on its own terms. In her skillful and illuminating introduction, Dr. Ruden explains where the Gospels came from, how their forms evolved, and how they set about revolutionizing world thought. Dr. Sarah Ruden holds a Ph.D. in Classical philology and is currently a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. She has translated a number of ancient literary works, among them Virgil’s Aeneid and Augustine’s Confessions. She is also the author of Paul Among the People: the Apostle Reinterpreted and Reimagined in His Own Time and The Face of Water: A Translator on Beauty and Meaning in the Bible.
