Over the past half-century, the U.S. has seen profound demographic and cultural change. But we remain a nation divided. The culture wars flare as hot as ever.
This course examines visual culture— images, works, and ideas in the contemporary arts, justice movements, and popular culture from the Watts uprising to #BlackLivesMatter, from multiculturalism through hip-hop to "post-identity" art. How do Americans see race now? Do we see each other any more clearly than before?
Presented in conjunction with a special exhibition at the Cantor Center for the Arts, "Who We Be", March 30-June27, Lynn Krywick Gibbons Gallery.
