  1. 5by5 | Getting There #33: Merlin Mann Shows Us His Panacea

In which we talk with the brilliantly undefinable—yet always gracious—special guest: Merlin Mann. Best known as a cornerstone of the classic indie band Bacon Ray, he’s apparently also a prolific podcaster, renowned blogger, sometimes-comedian, and index card enthusiast. However, he’s here today because of his (and all joking aside) amazing insight into, advice about, and dissection of the areas of productivity, motivation, and, well, just trying to get there. As he tackles our listeners’ questions (as well as our own), we get a couple hours of some classic Merlin-Mann-ing.

  2. Episode 004: John Roderick

I’m glad, of course, that the world decided not to end back in December. If if had, however, I’d like to think that, wherever I ended up, I’d take some solace in the idea that John Hodgman was surviving somewhere, slightly worse for wear, but otherwise unscathed, subsisting primarily on condiments bearing his own visage. His fellow John, Roderick, would no doubt still be kicking, as well, though, he have likely depleted his stock of Hodgman-branded mayonnaise jars shortly after the shit hit the fan.

I won’t say too much about Roderick’s abode, I’m sure there exist a fair number of Long Winters fans and podcasting enthusiasts just waiting for an excuse to pay an unwelcome visit — though, word of warning: anything in the space can be used as a weapon, from the swords in the umbrella bucket next to the door to the hundreds of candlesticks that line the grand piano in the living. If you make it past all of that, however, there’s a very comfortable leather couch, and perhaps Roderick will tell you how the world works for an hour or two.

But just in case, here’s a podcast that should go a ways toward simulating that experience for the wary.
