  4. Lionel Shriver: ‘In the war against coronavirus sacrifices need to be made’ 4/21/2020

Dan Wootton speaks to author and columnist Lionel Shriver at The Spectator, who thinks the country has been "largely brainwashed into buying the lockdown hook, line and sinker."

Lionel questioned the changing objectives of the lockdown, specifying that at first it was to save the NHS but now is about stopping the coronavirus in general, adding "every day we are in lockdown the country is falling apart."

When asked about whether Lionel would consider the country at war against coronavirus "in a war you care about protection of the country itself, in a war you make some sacrifices," specifying that whilst protecting the vulnerable is important, it shouldn’t be at the detriment to the wider population.

Lionel thought the country became more fearful once Prime Minister Boris Johnson had caught the virus, which potentially allowed connections to be made on a personal level between the virus and the effect it was having on society.
