  2. Annabel Crabb: Politics and the Media - Politics - Browse - Big Ideas - ABC TV

At The Sydney Institute, the ABC’s online political commentator reflects on a study trip to the US to give a more general appraisal of the future of politics and the media.

Journalist and author, Annabel Crabb, is one of Australia’s most respected political commentators.

Her unique style of writing and natural wit also make her one of the country’s most popular journalists.

She was recently a recipient of an Eisenhower Fellowship which allowed her to travel to the US to meet key players in broadcast news, examine innovations in political news coverage and explore how media convergence can generate interest in the political process.

Crabb’s talk here at The Sydney Institute is a reflection on that study trip in the context of a more general appraisal of the future of politics and the media.

The event was presented by The Sydney Institute and chaired by the Institute’s Executive Director, Gerard Henderson.

Annabel Crabb has been a journalist since 1997, beginning her career at The Adelaide Advertiser and moving on to cover politics first for The Age and then for The Sydney Morning Herald, where she was a columnist and sketch-writer.

She is the author of “Losing It: The Inside Story of the Labor Party in Opposition” (2005) and the Quarterly Essay “Stop at Nothing: The Life and Adventures of Malcolm Turnbull”, which won a 2009 Walkley Award.

Crabb was an early adopter of digital conversation and she now has over 40,000 Twitter followers.

She is presently the ABC’s chief online political writer.
