  1. UNdemocratizing Research

It has been an incredible couple of months for me, getting to talk with so many talented, inspiring peers. This episode, it’s time to end Season 1 of UXR Conversations with what I’m sure will be a fascinating discussion.

If you’ve been pondering about the role of researchers in organizations and the topic of democratizing research - this episode is for you!

The notion of democratizing research has been a prominent topic of discussion for a while now. I discussed it in a recent conversation with Behzod Sirjani:

Uber’s Eduardo Gomez Ruiz wrote a phenomenal Medium article about this titled "Scaling UX Research: how to train an army of (non)researchers":

And then, in a thought-provoking, eye-opening, courageous article titled "Undemocratizing User Research" Saswati Saha Mitra challenged this entire approach:

So, for the season finale of UXR Conversations, I’m delighted to host Saswati for a candid, in-depth discussion about research democratization. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.

We’d love to answer any questions about research democratization in your organization, so comment here with questions, or message me…

  2. Social Data Research!

I’m on countless social platforms including a couple I’m probably not the core demographic for, to put it lightly… (wassup TikTok 😂) Recently, I’ve been wondering - what’s the current state of Social UX and Market Research?

What insights can we glean from “peeking” into people’s online social lives? How does this type of research fit into the broader research strategy? And how can we conduct social research in an ethical way that respects and protects people’s privacy?

I’m glad to invite Yael Oppenheim for a conversation about this! Yael is a UX & Market Researcher not to mention she’s a founder as well! She designs, leads, and executes research projects that help organizations identify their customers’ needs, motivations, and understand their competitive landscape. She specializes in utilizing social analytics for market intelligence and user research, applying mixed methods in a variety of fields.

She’s also the founder of FitMyTime - a platform for remote personal fitness and yoga classes. Their mission is to enable people to exercise with a personal trainer from the comfort of their home - anywhere, anytime. For instructors, they offer a simple and effective way to expand their work opportunities, so they can focus on what they love to do. Seems pretty relevant for this day and age!

    If you’re…

  3. Identifying strategic research opportunities!

UX researchers often aspire to conduct foundational research, to dive deep into people’s lives, to figure out people’s greatest struggles, and uncover their crucial needs. Doing so may drive the most impact on the people you serve AND the teams you work with - but how do you identify these strategic research opportunities?

If you’re struggling to move beyond basic usability studies and you strive to have more impact as a researcher - this episode is for you.

I’m very excited that Kelly Moran is joining me in the studio for this conversation!

Kelly is an anthropologist applying her craft in tech. Formerly working at a consulting agency, she is now a Sr. UX Researcher at Google. She writes on medium  https://medium.com/@Kel_Moran and shares random insights on twitter: https://twitter.com/Kel_Moran .

  4. Transitioning to UX Research & Growing as a UX Researcher

It’s a special weekend edition of UXR Conversations! And this time, we’ll be talking all about transitioning into a UX Research career and growing as a researcher.

If you’re reflecting on your career right now and contemplating a change, or wondering about how you can learn, develop, and grow as a UX Researcher - don’t miss this episode.

The perfect person to speak to about this topic is Paul Derby, so I’m delighted he’s joining me in the studio! Paul is a fellow psychologist by training, who has since worked as a researcher for well over a decade at places including Honeywell, Facebook, and these days the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative.

Paul manages a team of UX researchers and leads the ResearchOps function within CZI’s Education Initiative. But wait - there’s more… Because Paul is also a career coach! He works with his clients to help them find fulfillment in their career, shift the perspectives that don’t serve them and bring awareness to the importance of “being”, which in turn helps them craft their narrative, build their portfolio, and interview for new roles.

We’re going to DIVE DEEP into professional and personal transformations, the mindset and perspectives that drive growth and fulfillment, making a positive impact in the world and so much more!

We’d love for you to join us and send…

  5. Building for the Next Billion Users

Who are the next billion users? What roles will technology play in their lives? And how can we research and develop zero to one products that’ll serve them well?

  6. Between Two Psychologists

In this episode of UXR Conversations, I sit down with Adi to discuss what a couple of psychologists have to contribute to the tech industry and the development of groundbreaking user experiences.

What are the challenges and opportunities in tech when one is trained as a psychologist? What’s it like to go from seeing patients in the clinic to co-founding a company? And how many psychologists does it take to change a light-bulb?

    We hope you join us!

  7. Research Meets Decision Making

Guess what?! Today, 7 pm (PST), it’s another UXR Conversation!

This time, I’m delighted to host Christina Scavuzzo, Senior UX Researcher @ Chime. Like many people who find themselves asking questions professionally, she took an iterative path to design research. From neuroscience to electric cars, to healthcare and education tech, it seems the common thread has been decision making, perspective, and how to design experiences navigating complex systems. She recently joined Chime, to work on making the banking system less of a tangled mess.

We’re going to talk about decision making and the importance of guiding and educating users. How can research inform the curation and personalization of the choices presented to users as a way to mitigate friction and frustration - especially when it comes to decisions around healthcare, finances?

We’d love for you to join us and send us your comments and questions!
