Harrison Bergeron was published in 1961 by Kurt Vonnegut Jr (from the 1986 Rodney Dangerfield classic "Back to School"). Our vicious lust for 'equality through disadvantage' (handicapping) has only become multitudes more pronounced over the decades. Some have argued this work was actually a "satire" of anti-equality wrongthinkers; that the premise/conclusion of the world is so ludicrous, far-fetched, and overblown that Vonnegut was actually in favor of pursuing equality (or "equity," or handicapping) at all costs.
