The Hour is a new podcast from Resident Advisor. Each month, we’ll be bringing you an hour of documentaries, discussion, interviews and other things besides. The Hour will run as part of the weekly Exchange, although unlike its sister podcast it won’t have a set format—instead, it’ll be a constantly shifting blend of features that’ll simply reflect what’s exciting us each month.

For the second episode of The Hour, Max Pearl, RA’s New York-based staff writer, travels to Detroit to meet Jason Huvaere, one of the directors at Movement, on the occasion of the festival’s tenth anniversary.

Aaron Coultate, RA’s news editor, chews the fat with Jason Spinks at Kristina Records in London.

RA editor Ryan Keeling discusses a feature on the trance club Godskitchen that he didn’t write.

And five people from across dance music tell us what they think the biggest challenge facing the industry is.

  9. Radiolab — ‘The Universe Knows My Name’

In this new short, we explore luck and fate, both good and bad, with an author and a cartoon character.

Questions of fate and free will come up all the time on Radiolab, whether we’re telling a story or talking to a scientist. And in this short, we decided to take a playful approach to the subject. Paul Auster tells a couple good yarns (true ones) that make Jad and Robert wonder whether the universe is playing puppet master. Then Pat Walters and Lulu Miller talk to Michael Barrier (he’s the guy you call if you have a big profound question about Looney Tunes). Along the way, they answer a question that has been bugging Lulu for a long, long time.
