  1. Humaning 102: An Interintellect Special with Maggie Appleton and Aaron Lewis

Fellow Interintellects Maggie Appleton - a cultural anthropologist, designer and leading "digital gardener" - and Aaron Lewis - a popular blogger, designer and internet theorist - join Interintellect founder Anna Gát to talk about a new aspect of humaning - being a human on the internet.

Together we discussed time, memory, and our sense of self in a chaotic 21st century we spend immersed in digital environments, while the lines between "online" and "offline" are slowly but surely blurring into nothing…

Can we use the key findings of anthropology and media theory to help us make sense of these new realms - as fragmented and tribal as our ancestors’ in prehistoric eras yet pushing us swiftly into unprecedented futures?

  2. Working in Public with Nadia Eghbal - Interintellect Fireside Chat

Open source theorist and GitHub veteran Nadia Eghbal, a role model to many of us thanks her influential essays and reports, joined Interintellects and friends to discuss the publication of her first book, Working in Public (Stripe Press, 2020) and her journey and discoveries along the way.

A research area fascinating both engineers and social scientists, Nadia’s work has been a re-exploration of cooperation and coordination for the internet age. Which if any of the social wisdoms of the 19th and 20th centuries, how much of evolutionary psychology, applied game theory and behavioural modelling, will survive all the pull requests and forking, hyperlinks and retweets, collective ownership and decentralised credentialism?

The author was in conversation with Interintellect founder Anna Gát followed by an informal Q&A.

Christopher Alexander’s work is hard to get into. He’s written over 15 books, and there isn’t one that serves as a general intro or overview for the rest. 4. Presence, Parenting, and the Planet | Dan Siegel | Talks at Google

Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., is an internationally acclaimed author, award-winning educator, and child psychiatrist. He is currently a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine. His books include "The Yes Brain," "Mindsight," "The Developing Mind, "The Mindful Therapist," "Parenting From the Inside Out," and "The Whole-Brain Child."

In this session, we will explore three key aspects of our children’s future that can help create the structure for effective parenting in our contemporary times. The field of attachment research reveals that parental presence—how a parent or other caregiver is open to and focused on the inner life of the child—is the best predictor of how emotionally and socially resilient a child will be as they develop into young adults. This parent-child relationship helps foster a secure attachment by providing the four S’s of being seen, soothed, and safe to cultivate security.

Topics covered in this interview: Nicholas, in your lens, what’s the pandemic been like so far? (01:29)

Has the world been a smaller place really impacted the spread of the disease? (5:35)

What’s surprising you so far about this pandemic? (8:16)

A vaccine is a year away, at the earliest and even then it may not be that effective. Flu vaccine is not that effective. I don’t want to advocate for the, so-called, varicella parties, the chicken pox parties of the 70s and 80s, but is there a time …

  7. How To Go From Commodity Freelancer to In-Demand Consultant w/ Jonathan Stark

A freelancer is a hired gun—a mercenary who values money more than ethics. Is it time to stop calling yourself a freelancer? How do you transition from a freelancer competing on price and become one who is sought after for their ideas?

You probably honed your skills initially as a full-time employee and then eventually started freelancing because you got fired or downsized or let go or laid off or just got fed up and quit.
