In which we talk with the brilliantly undefinable—yet always gracious—special guest: Merlin Mann. Best known as a cornerstone of the classic indie band Bacon Ray, he’s apparently also a prolific podcaster, renowned blogger, sometimes-comedian, and index card enthusiast. However, he’s here today because of his (and all joking aside) amazing insight into, advice about, and dissection of the areas of productivity, motivation, and, well, just trying to get there. As he tackles our listeners’ questions (as well as our own), we get a couple hours of some classic Merlin-Mann-ing.
In this episode we crest violent bloodshed and flow with universe building. Characters are further fleshed out as the tides begin to rise again.
Merlin “The Hammer” Mann and Dan “The Anvil” Moren bring their pipes to help Hell’s Kitchen.
Sweet Mrs Cardenas brings Hell’s Kitchen back into chaos. That might be pushing the truth. However, there were ninjas, lonely breakfasts, bloody hammers and a man called Stick. This week is the first of what will be monthly episodes with a guest and a slightly longer running time. We don’t think that anyone reading this or listening to the episode needs an introduction to Merlin Mann, but we do want to set the stage a little bit.
Just as this podcast is essentially Generational reborn, many of us have at one point reinvented ourselves. Sometimes this reinvention is more of a realization, and sometimes we make a conscious decision to make a change. When Erik and Gabe decided they wanted to talk about this together, they thought Merlin would be the perfect guest to serve as both foil and therapist. He graciously agreed to join them on this episode, and we think you will enjoy the result.
