  3. Laser Time – Godzilla’s Greatest Hits – Laser Time

I love this site and podcast, but compared to 98`godzilla, the new one blew it out of the water. I was excited to see a decent adaptation to the classics. The massive destruction displayed on screen was great. The human aspect with the military was quite drastic buuuut it was a good attempt. (I am prior NAVY the convey and carriers would have for fuggin sure kept space between gzilla.) Gotta love this movie. The halo drop was awesome, and the tail whip in the end was sooooo goood. Good on the movie and props to laser time network for being as witty and brilliant as they may. Keep calm and sail along. Ps. I did not have enough time to listen but I surely will tuesday.

If you’re not a Pokémon fan*, the biggest release this week is Beyond: Two Souls, the latest beautiful, divisive, interactive game-like thing from developer Quantic Dream and its cackling French overlord, David Cage. In honor of its arrival (and to balance out all the swipes we’ve taken at Heavy Rain over the years), we lavish a little praise on our favorite moments in David Cage’s creations, shed a tear over Tom Clancy’s passing, and talk about some of the things you wanted to do in Grand Theft Auto Online before the servers were working properly.

    Question of the Week

Which video game franchise would you like to see Tom Clancy’s name added to, and what would it be like as a result?

  6. Laser Time – Guide to the Star Wars Expanded Universe – Laser Time

So first a funny story, then a Gundam rant.

When I was at my community college, we had a guest speaker who was Earnest Cline, author of Ready Player One.

    Its a pretty good book!

When it came time for the questions part, I asked him how he felt about the expanded Star Wars universe being declared non canon, because he had talked about how he started writing with Star Wars fan fic.

I am proud to say it was the nerdiest question asked at this speech.

    So Gundam.

Beam Sabers ARE better than Light sabers because they are used by Giant Robots.

The names are a league of bad that the made up sounds for Star Wars names don’t even approach.

Jim Ghingnham is not a distant relative of Jake Gyllenhall.

And despite the fact that this is a major character in the series, DO NOT Google Full Frontal Gundam without doubling checking safe search.

On a serious note (?) the main dude behind Gundam, Yoshiyuki Tomino really is like the George Lucas of anime.

He has good ideas, but his own internal logic and vision are completely incomprehensible to the average non Yoshiyuki Tomino.

It might take a little while to wrap your head around how exactly how the whole Gundam thing works, knowing your Universal Century from your spin offs (example: Gundam Unicron is UC, Mobile Fighter G Gundam is its own timeline), but it is incredibly satisfying once you actually get why Gundam is fantastic.

  7. Joseph McCarthy and the Red Scare: Part 1 | Stuff You Missed in History Class

Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy had a lackluster career – at least, that is, until he claimed the U.S. government was riddled with conspiratorial Communists. In this episode, Sarah and guest host Ben explore the hysteria-fueled rise of Joseph McCarthy.
