Close your eyes and have a thought. Now what was it like to think that thought? What we usually call 'thinking' is often a kind of speaking by, and a listening to, the multiple voices of our consciousness. Psychologist and writer Charles Fernyhough tells stories of everyone from children to people who hear voices and reveals how our inner voices play a vital part in our thinking.

Charles Fernyhough is a Professor in the Department of Psychology, Durham University. His background is in developmental psychology, with a particular focus on social, emotional and cognitive development. His work has contributed to our understanding of how language and thought are related in child development and beyond and his most recent focus has been on applying mainstream developmental psychology to the study of psychosis.

  4. Milton Friedman Speaks: Money and Inflation (B1230) - Full Video

Inflation is blamed on many things. But it has only one cause: It is a monetary phenomenon. Inflation occurs when the quantity of money increases faster than the quantity of goods. Why does the money supply increase? Very often, it does so to enable the government to pay its bills without raising taxes. There's only one real cure for inflation. It is a cure that's easy to describe but difficult to apply: The government must reduce spending and print less money. The alternatives are both recession and double-digit inflation. Recorded at University of San Diego & San Diego Chamber of Commerce ©1978 / 1:26:03.

  6. LEADERSHIP LAB: The Art of Public Speaking

Do you wish your public speaking skills were stronger? Do you worry about losing your audience's attention when presenting your research? Scholars tend to emphasize content over delivery, when in fact the manner in which you deliver your presentation is just as important as the material being presented. This workshop was led by a trained actor who discussed some of the basic yet overlooked principles of speaking in front of an audience, why an engaging presentation is so important for communicating your research, and some simple techniques that can help remedy bad public speaking habits. This workshop was interactive and required those who registered to offer a short two minute presentation on a pre-circulated topic.
