Substantial Sessions 03: Just Like Honey

Tracklisting (via email, with commentary):

01) Brandy & Monica - The Boy Is Mine (the first Darkchild production to hit big, IIRC…great instrumental. i like this ext’d version.) 02) Lucy Pearl - Dance Tonight (THE JAM!! i play an uptempo (Bmore club) remake by Top Billin’ any chance i get.) 03) Mary J - Real Love (classic. borderline ubiquitous, but Mary is the soul queen of our generation, so it gets a pass.) 04) SWV (i think) - Don’t Walk Away (good choice.) 05) Mariah - Honey (meh. puffy. meh. "Fantasy" with ODB is the proper choice. similar vibe. but i get it. good name for a mix) 06) Force MD’s - Love You Down (NO…it’s the INOJ remake…that makes sense, timeline-wise for this mix. Booty bass. Yeeeeeaaaahhhh!) 07) Ghost Town DJ’s - My Boo (same album as that INOJ track, i believe. "So So Def Bass Allstars". More booty bass. Uh huh.) 08) ?? - Freak It Like You Want It (not on my radar…probably played it once or twice when it was new. nice "deep cut" choice.) 09) TLC - baby baby baby (niiiice. not an obvious cut. good choice. i would totally get down to this mix in college.) 10) Mary. Freakin. J. - Sweet Thing (CHOON!!!! THE OTHER JAM on this mix. IMPECCABLE CHOICE. This makes the mix. Perfect.) 11) D’Angelo - Lady (PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.)
