Michael Rapaport, Actor and Director: Interview on The Sound of Young America
Michael Rapaport has an extensive list of acting credits, from Woody Allen films to roles on Boston Public, Friends, and Prison Break. For his newest project, he began with a vision to profile his favorite hip-hop group, A Tribe Called Quest, and ended up documenting their deep-rooted friendships and conflicts along with the musical history of the group.
The movie is called Beats, Rhymes and Life, and features interviews with members Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Mohammed and Jarobi White. Animated sequences of Tribe songs are interspersed with remarks from hip-hop producers, radio personalities and rappers, and give a portrait of the time as well as of the group itself.

Glenn O’Brien on The Sound of Young America
I interviewed Glenn O’Brien, GQ’s Style Guy, about his new book “How To Be A Man,” for my public radio show The Sound of Young America. Since the interview is so PTO-appropriate, I thought I’d share it here first (and on the Put This On podcast feed in iTunes), before it airs on the radio.
Despite its title, the book isn’t another didactic how-to. It’s a collection of charming, funny essays about masculinity. It’s not a cliched masculinity, either. It’s a robust, full-spectrum masculinity that befits the author, who was a New Wave legend and a collaborator with Andy Warhol.

AADL Talks To Jesse Thorn and Jordan Morris of Jordan, Jesse, Go! | Ann Arbor District Library
In this episode, AADL Talks To Jesse Thorn and Jordan Morris. Jesse is a self-made public radio host, producing the Public Radio International-distributed "The Sound of Young America" out of his house, and the founder of the podcast network Maximum Fun. Jordan is a comedian, writer, and host on Fuel TV’s "The Daily Habit". When Eli and I spoke with them, it was the day after they recorded a live episode of Jordan, Jesse, Go!, their off the cuff comedy podcast, at AADL. We talk about how an episode of Jordan Jesse Go gets put together, how the media landscape is changing to make shows like theirs possible, and building a community of people who you’ve never met. Warning: foul language ahead.
