Folge 4: Jana Herwig
Während dieses Gesprächs ist leider ein blöder Unfall passiert: das Aufnahmegerät ist vom Tisch gefallen und hat dabei die SD-Karte ausgespuckt. Leider verhält sich das Zoom H4n in einer solche Situation ganz übel: die Daten der Aufnahme waren zwar auf der Karte, aber nicht als in Verwendung markiert. Ich habe die verbliebenen 28 Minuten auf dieselbe Karte aufgenommen und damit die ersten 28 Minuten des Gesprächs überschrieben. Überhaupt ist es erst durch einem technisch-chirurgischen Eingriff des Twitter-Users @MacLemon (nochmal herzlichen Dank!) gelungen, den nicht-überschriebenen Rest des ersten Teils des Gesprächs zu retten.
Jana und ich haben im wesentlichen über drei Themen gesprochen. Zu Beginn ging es um die unterschiedlichen Herangehensweisen von technischen Ingenieurswissenschaften, Geisteswissenschaften und Sozialwissenschaften. Leider ist dieser Teil des Gesprächs teilweise verloren, und der Einstieg in die Folge ist entsprechend etwas plötzlich. Im zweiten Teil ging es um Anonymous, 4chan und die Netz-Sub/-Protestkultur, eines von Janas Forschungsfeldern. Schließlich haben wir uns Fragen rund um die Ästhetik und Ethik von Design, insbesondere Interaktionsdesign, zugewandt, weil die in Janas aktuellem Forschungsvorhaben eine Rolle spielen.

What’s the Big Idea: Occupy London
A couple of weeks ago, protesters at St Paul’s were evicted after four-and-a-half months. Most of the media coverage during the time they were there was about whether or not they were entitled to stay, and when St Paul’s Cathedral or the City of London would decide enough was enough.
But we learned very little about the protesters themselves. Who were they? Why did they decide to give up their normal lives to camp? Did they all want the same thing? And did they get it?
In late December we set out hoping to make an episode about what Occupy was for, straight from the horse’s mouth. It very much ended up being about the people there, and the stories of how they found themselves camping in the centre of London for several months during the winter of 2011/12.
