  2. Third Paradigm: 3P-041 Undermining Empire with Vivek Chibber

Quotes from Chibber’s review "The Good Empire" on Niall Ferguson’s book Colossus, which suggests that America should take lessons in empire-building from the British. Examines puppet governments that start thinking they’re a real boy: Saddam Hussein, Israel, and the military coup in Honduras.

Reads the poems "Certainty" by Tukaram, "Introductions" by Moya Cannon, and "Twigs" by Taha Muhammad Ali to the song "Evanescent" by the LA-Persian band, Axiom of Choice. Reads a message from Tom Louden, who led an international delegation to Honduras, about the possibility that the children of activists are being tortured. Plays Brett Dennen’s "Ain’t No Reason" and talks about the powerful Clair Carre video with it. Examines Marxism’s centralization of power and its lack of resiliency to totalitarian coups. Ends with "Along the Way" by DeVotchka.
