Third Paradigm: 3P-054 Clash of the Continents: Climate Debt
Relates statistics about per capita carbon emissions to national debt burdens. Suggests that instead of charging "rich" countries a climate debt, we absolve all national debts - saving the global South 200 billion a year. Proposes a US plan for counties to keep 2% of their own income tax for every 2% the county lowers its carbon emissions. This would promote local sovereignty, defund the military, and lower emissions 20% by 2020, 40% by 2030, or even 80% by 2050.
Reads the poems "Almost a Conversation" by Mary Oliver, and "The Seven of Pentacles" by Marge Piercy. Recommends that Evo Morales, Naomi Klein, Vendana Shiva, and Desmond Tutu read Barabara Ehrenreich, to understand why Americans aren’t rolling in the dough. Uses the case study of Firestone and Mittal Steel in Liberia to explain odious debt, vulture funds, and liability sheltering. From Clinton Callahan’s article, "Beware the Psychopath, My Son," extrapolates that corporations are, by definition, psychopaths as persons without conscience or culpability.

Third Paradigm: 3P-031 Finance is an Extractive Industry
Examines foreign investment as a form of pollution, according to the Abya Yala, and as a form of perpetual slavery. As examples, cites the oil and gas transnationals in the Peruvian Amazon, and Firestone in Liberia. Shows how Dell, HP, and AT&T are collaborating to censor free speech in China. Illustrates NAFTA’s pro-investor bias with the case of Glamis Gold against the State of California.
Reads poems by Gregory Orr, Jane Hirschfield, and Czeslaw Milosz to the song Shot in the Head by Moby, and previews Pale Horses from their upcoming CD Wait for Me. Applies NAFTA’s rules to the hypothetical case of a Canadian hog farm buying Wilder Ranch State Park. Breaks down the relative value of time, from a Bangladeshi 12-yr- old making $8/month for 500 hours of work to a WalMart employee or teenage babysitter making $8/hr. Looks at the downward spiral of profit and control. Relates a shareholder proxy vote in which Fidelity’s Vanguard Fund directors recommend against a proposal to not invest in genocide. Plays Bread and Roses by Comrade Fatso, a radical street poet from Zimbabwe.
