Episode 82 – Restarting Jan’s Atomic Hearts with Simon Roy!

    by Chris Thompson

    With Simon Roy …

After last week’s Hellboy Day specials with Mike Mignola and friends (which you can still listen to here), this time around I catch up with rising star Simon Roy (Prophet, Murder Book, Jan’s Atomic Heart) ahead of this week’s Emerald City Comicon.

Simon & I discuss how he first broke into comics, working on Prophet with Brandon Graham and The Field with Ed Brisson, as well as the perils and pitfalls of making your early work available again. It’s a great chat with a young writer/artist whose career is on an upward trajectory!

To get in touch, send feedback or submit projects for consideration, please email reviews@popculturehound.com. 4. EUDataP: State of the Union

Jan Phillip Albrecht is rapporteur of the European Parliament for the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation as well as for the EU-US data protection framework agreement.

The European data protection reform will replace the existing 27 data protection laws in EU member states to form a homogenous legislation regarding data privacy online as well as offline.

As the profits of many data collecting corporations are at stake, the European parliament is subject to a storm of lobbyists trying to dismantle citizens fundamental privacy rights.

  5. RSA - The Scientific Method Of The Mind: What Sherlock Holmes can teach us about decision making

The Scientific Method Of The Mind: What Sherlock Holmes can teach us about decision making

Watch the video (edited highlights)RSA Thursday When we think of the scientific method, we imagine an experimenter in his laboratory following a series of steps that runs something like this: make some observations about a phenomenon; create a hypothesis to explain those observations; design an experiment to test the hypothesis; run the experiment; see if the results match your expectations; rework your hypothesis if you must; lather, rinse, and repeat. Simple seeming enough. But how can we go beyond that? Can we train our minds to work like that automatically, all the time, through a mindful, present approach to our everyday thinking and decision making? Sherlock Holmes teaches us to do not only that, but to go a step beyond: by using his methodology and applying the mindfulness that has come to characterise the scientific method to our lives, we can learn to optimise not only our own everyday existence but our broader contributions to society and the lives of those around us.Speaker: Maria Konnikova, author and columnistChair: Vikki Heywood CBE, RSA ChairSee what people said on Twitter: #RSAmind
