  3. Niche Subscriptions on Spark

Cathi Bond is here to talk about the trend of niche publications – having a subscription that’s not to a magazine, but to actual physical objects that come in the mail. 5. With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

Recent developments in web technologies like HTML5 and CSS3 have allowed us to build a richer web, full of advanced visual treatments like web fonts, animations, transformations, and drop-shadows. But have we got carried away with our new toys? Just because we can use a drop-shadow doesn’t mean we have to. In this new and often controversial talk, Elliot looks at solid design principles that will turn a good website into a great website, examines the scenarios where it’s better to stay away from unnecessary visual effects, and attempts to find the sweet spot in between the two extremes. "With great power comes great responsibility," said Uncle Ben, and Spidey hadn’t even used border-radius!

  6. I care because you do

Crushed into submission by the weight of impending deadlines, battered and bruised by insane client demands, and reduced to a quivering mess by technical problems, how does the web designer inject care, passion, and polish into a project? When and how is it possible to add that extra layer of TLC when all you want to do is get it finished? Elliot Jay Stocks looks at the motivation behind great design, and attempts to inspire by removing the client from the picture and focus on the importance of design evolution.
