The purchase of more than 40 local farms around the New South Wales town of Gunnedah has sparked fresh concerns about state owned foreign companies snapping up valuable Australian assets.
Foreign investment in prime Australian agricultural land is causing growing unease in rural Australia. The buyouts have sparked claims Australia’s sovereignty is at risk, with the Government coming under renewed pressure to toughen up the foreign investment guidelines. There is no firm data on how much pastoral land has been sold to overseas interests.
