Back to Work #38: Sorry. You Can’t Have a Candle.
On improving presentation culture. Dan and Merlin talk about bombing the deck, advancing the slides, and striving to improve the self-perpetuating bad culture of presentations. Slide?!? Fresh Starts and Modest Changes
From deep in the 43 Folders archives—January 4, 2006 to be exact—a podcast eppy on why I way prefer “Fresh Starts and Modest Changes” to ambitious but un-keepable “resolutions.”
Short and not particularly instructive, but since when did that stop me? Exactly.
Go easy on yourself, gang. Unless you’ve had a lot of success in the past doing otherwise, maybe channel some of that hungover overambition into just doing stuff—rather than feeling like you have to totally reinvent yourself.
Because that’s a lot of work. And, at least in my experience, it pretty much always fails, making you feel worse than when you started.
Resolutions are like promises and bunny rabbits—they are WAY easier to make than to keep.
Just a data point from the guy who wanted to replace John Ritter.
