  1. Being the Church in our Culture

Our keynote speaker of the Reform & Resurge Conference May 2006 was Dr. Tim Keller, senior pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York, New York and founder of Redeemer Church Planting Center. Please listen to session 6 audio and the first of three talks by Dr. Keller on, "Being the Church in our Culture." In this session Dr. Keller challenges believers to understand the division in church as it relates to the culture that we are in today. Walk along with Tim Keller in the six facets of how to be a church that reaches the culture. First, more Christians living long-term in cities; second, with a better understanding of the gospel; third, living as dynamic counter-cultures in the city; fourth, integrating their faith and their work; fifth, radically committed to the good of the city as a whole; and sixth, contextualizing the gospel message. His stress lies in the fact that we must do all stated facets of ministry because they are all required by the gospel. They are not optional, and they are inter-dependent. Holistic ministry, in which Christians work sacrificially for the common good, is the necessary context for any convincing evangelistic call to believe in Jesus. This mp3 of Dr. Keller’s session should give a solid foundation for all that are on mission with Jesus.

  7. Tim Keller - Losing My Religion - Why Christians Should Drop Their Religion

The modern critique of religion comes from Freud, Marx, and Nietzsche. Freud claimed that religion is psychological self-justification, that we created God to assuage our guilt and fear. Marx claimed that religion is a sociological self-justification, that we created God to exclude those unlike us. Nietzsche said that religion is nothing but a power trip, an attempt to use God to accrue power over others. However, Jesus himself critiqued religion and turned it on its head.

  8. Tim Keller - Removing Idols of the Heart

The essential dynamic of change in the heart of the Christian runs on a cycle of repentance and faith. Repentance is unmasking the idols of the heart, the motivations for action and bases for identity other than Christ, and then taking them to the Cross. Faith is trusting in the forgiveness of Christ, understanding both the depth of our sin and the worth of Christ’s sacrifice.

  9. Tim Keller - Real Security and the Call of God

Through Abraham we see how God’s personal call graciously challenges every aspect of our lives, by giving us entirely new lives with a radical new purpose. God’s call to Abraham presents him with the opportunity to find his true self, and to rely on the ultimate security that comes from trusting Him.

  10. Tim Keller - Born into Hope

We need a living hope to get through life and endure suffering. A living hope enables us to have both sorrow and joy. Our living hope is an inheritance achieved for us by Christ.
