Cassini/Huygens: Rewriting the Textbook on Saturn

Cassini has given us a whole new view of Saturn, Titan, and other moons of this amazing and beautiful ringed world. Kevin Grazier from Cassini provides an overview of what has been learned so far from the mission and talks with Bob Mitchell, the Cassini Program Manager, and John Smith, the Cassini tour designer.

  1. Listen to the Sounds of Titan! | The Planetary Society

The Planetary Society has teamed up with the European Space Agency and the Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument team to bring you the sounds recorded by the Huygens probe during its harrowing descent through Titan’s atmosphere.

This sound sample overlaps the landing, at which point all becomes much more quiet. The landing occurs as a slow fade of sound rather than a sharp "thud" because of the 2-second, or lower, resolution of the sound data, and because Delory’s sound processing algorithm is designed to smooth amplitude jumps in the acoustic sensor data.

  2. Astronomy Cast: Cassini Mission
